Whoops! I never hit enter on this.
Back in February, it felt surreal to be writing this, but I completed the first draft of my WIP! To say that I’m excited would be an absolute understatement. This book idea popped into my head when I was 16 and has been swirling around ever since. I decided in November to finally do NaNoWriMo and work on this idea. I made good progress, but didn’t finish that first draft until now, so it took about 4 months to get here (plus 18 years of mulling, but who’s counting?).
I’ve always loved editing and have been really looking forward to this part of the process. I have my pages all printed out and have been working my way through the document with sticky notes, a red pen, and multiple colors of highlighters. It’s amazing how much the story has changed from the initial idea, to the outline, to the beginning of the draft, to the end of the draft, and now beyond that. It’s in constant flux and just keeps getting better.
Now in May, I’ve been working on edits since the beginning of March. I’ve edited my book, I’ve had multiple beta readers read and edit my book (still waiting on a few more), and I’ve done more edits to my book. Each line of edits, I feel myself getting closer to the moment when I feel ready to query agents.
I’ve made my list of agents and have started the initial outreach messages. It’s an exciting and terrifying part of this journey that very much brings about feelings of imposter syndrome, but I keep reminding myself that I love my story, so other people will too.
